Not a long time ago a famous German football player committed suicide. This last act of this man touched many people. The country seemed to sink into national mourning. A fate of many. But this one let rise the discussion about depression. Today, I read by accident about the suicide of a twenty year old Korean photo model. Her blog reads like a diary. I couldn’t stop reading. Although I was so ashamed about my curiosity. She didn’t only write about her life but she also realized deepest insights in her psyche. The way she wrote showed clearly how she felt. Happy, unhappy, insecure, not to be worth, the emptiness, to cultivate the facade and so on. But I also gained the impression she was aware about her condition. It seemed she fought for self-knowledge. Just because I read her texts I do not know her. Of course not. I just got little insight into her emotions. But that’s why this fate touched me even more. And I feel so sorry for her. I’d wish this young woman and all others who went the same way could have made the decision to stay alive despite and although the disease they suffered. An illness, depression, which must not degenerate into a buzz word just as happened with the burn-out symptom. Mental illness is a serious illness which can be treated. And even better than twenty years ago. Especially nowadays this state hopefully means not only unwanted experience but above all ,with mindfulness and the right treatment, the survival.
